What does it mean ...
Once the four new telephone
books are introduced by BT,
you will need a set of all four
books if you wish to look-up
numbers in the different regions.
The table below illustrates
this.

According to BT, each household
is entitled to one free phone
book covering their local area.
Initially BT said that householders
must pay £10 per additional
book but then, due to media
pressure instigated by the 'Bring
Back One Book' campaign, they
backed down and made the books
free to anyone in NI who requested
a copy. In May 2007, after they
had judged the storm of protest
to have passed, BT quietly introduced
the £10 charge without
any notifications to customers
or press announcements.
BT has already backed down
backed down in one planned change
by including the whole of the
Craigavon area in the South-West
directory. The original plan
from BT had Lurgan in the South-East
book and Portadown/Craigavon
in the South-West Book.

The map below shows the approximate
regions included in each of
the four phone books. If you
live near a boundary, please
contact BT directly to enquire
what region you are located
in.
Support
The plans by BT to introduce
four telephone books has resulted
in a wave of cross-community
objections, throughout Northern
Ireland.
All of the main political parties
in Northern Ireland have protested
about these changes and many
media organisations (like the
BBC and the Belfast Telegraph)
have reported comments of disapproval
from householders. Now you too
can add your objections by voting
(in the panel on the left of
this page), signing
the online petition.
